Introduction to the S.C.A.

Good Gentle, Welcome!

The SCA is like unto a map of a heretofore, unexplored land of vast treasures. You are the traveler. Here then find some advice to assist thee on thy journey.

As a new person to The Society & Northover thou needst know that even though each Kingdom has it's own set of Laws & Traditions, The Society For Creative Anachronism, Inc. has only two written "Rules" which all need play by.

THE RULES OF THE SCA

1) Thou shalt conduct thyself as a Lady or Gentleman.

In the Society we strive to promote honor, courtesy & chivalry amongst all. As to the actual title of Lord or Lady, Knight etc., they are not used by new folks but are awarded later by our Monarch's to those who have proven themselves worthy of such titles.

2) Thou shalt make an attempt to wear period style garment to events.

As for thy clothing, any attempt at pre-17th cen. clothing is appreciated & acceptable.

Please contact our Officer, called the Chatelaine, who is charged with assisting new folks She/He can assit ye with all thy questions & has loaner garb (clothing) & loaner feast gear available so that there is no need for thee to go to any great expense just to attend thy first events. We hold clothing classes or if ye are not so inclined there are also clothing merchants, see clothing link.

SOME TRADITIONS & UNWRITTEN LAWS

As a Lady or Gentleman offer, whenever possible, to assist others in need, be it carrying, fetching or cleaning.

Thou shalt not steal from another member.

Thou shalt respect other member's property & ask permission before entering anothers pavilion or encampment.

Always ask permission of the owner before touching a blade, sword or other martial arts weapon.

All local Laws of the Land supercede the Laws of the SCA Kingdoms, Principalities, Baronies, etc. and will be enforced by the Sheriff or Police, if needed. This means no physical attacks outside of regulated SCA combat, no under age drinking, no thievery, etc.
