Martial Styles
and Fighting

There are a number of different types of fighting styles which are studied in the SCA:

Commonly called "armored combat" or "heavy" fighting, this fighting style attempts to recreate the feel of fighting while wearing chainmail or full plate armor:

Armored Combat

If this fighting style looks interesting to you, please contact our Fighter Marshal. Alternatively, you are always welcome to come to our fighter practices to watch our fighters. Please check our Calendar for practice times and locations.

Another popular fighting style is "rapier" fighting, which recreates the style of fighting which was popular during the Renaissance period:

If you are interested in learning this style of fighting, please contact our Rapier Marshal or, again, feel free to come to one of our practices to watch. Check our Calendar for times and locations.

Additionally, there are programs designed for the youth:

Youth Fighters

If you are interested in youth fighting, please contact our Youth Rapier Marshal or our Seneschal.

Archery is also popular, as well as other "live weapons" styles, such as axe or knife throwing:

Archery

If you are interested in participating in our archery practices, please contact our Archery Marshal or check our Calendar for times and locations.

And there are even those who enjoy studying larger 'live weapons'!

Catapult

Please contact us if you are interested in learning about or participating in any of the martial forms that we study. The safety standards of the SCA are exceedingly high and despite the "look" of our activities, they are as safe or safer than many modern sports activities - and a lot of fun!
